A very rich history and almost 3000 year’s of civilization makes Volterra one of Tuscany’s most important towns. In ancient times, Volterra was one of the 12 cities that founded the Etruscan Confederation. From Volterra, there are outstanding views of the surrounding hills.

Here, you can also find well-kept remains from the Etruscan period, i.e. the town gate, Porta del Arco, one of the best preserved Etruscan town gates in Italy. It dates back to the 4th century B.C.
The Etruscan park, Enrico Fiumi, exhibits dwellings from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. The Palazzo Minucci-Solaini is home to an outstanding exhibition of Tuscan paintings from the 15th century. The Museo Etrusco Guarnicci is one of the most important museums in Italy and it houses an extraordinary collection of alabaster urns.
